CHAMPLAIN, NY — August 30, 2026 — Captains Brian Chevalier and Blake Chevalier recently completed a challenging practical exercise as part of their final sign-off on the Champlain Fire Department's three pumpers.

The final exercise was part of several months of in-house training focused on preparing the two captains to operate the department's engine fleet.

The training covered more than vehicle operation. Brian and Blake worked to become familiar with the pumpers' systems, equipment and capabilities, along with the responsibilities involved in operating the apparatus during emergency responses.

Completing a department-level sign-off helps ensure members understand the equipment they may be responsible for operating and can perform the required tasks before being cleared to drive and operate the apparatus.

The Champlain Fire Department said the two captains dedicated significant time to the training process and credited their work and commitment as an important part of their preparation to serve the department and community.
