WEST SENECA, N.Y. — August 9 — The East Seneca Fire Company, which is part of the West Seneca Fire District No.4, conducted a townwide training exercise centered on off-road rescue and search operations.The company's location was listed as 100 Lein Road, West Seneca, NY 14224, according to records from Erie County and the Town of West Seneca.

During the training, fire crews had the chance to use department-owned utility terrain vehicles (UTVs) and gain experience navigating wooded trails and handling various off-road rescue scenarios.

This practical component enabled firefighters to assess vehicle performance, explore access routes, and practice search techniques in areas that are challenging for regular emergency vehicles.

The West Seneca Police Department also participated in the exercise and showcased its drone technology.

The department’s aviation unit is trained to operate unmanned aerial systems for multiple public-safety tasks, including search and rescue missions.

A comparable townwide UTV search drill, involving West Seneca fire companies and the police, featured UTV demonstrations, drone operations, and exercises in difficult terrain.

These activities highlighted how the agencies can integrate ground and aerial resources during search efforts.

For emergency service personnel, drills such as the one held on August 9 offered a chance to collaborate with nearby agencies, address access issues, and refine communication methods before they are needed during a real rescue operation.
