Boston Volunteers Conducted Interior Fire Training

This article is a direct street report from our correspondent and has not been edited by the 1st Responder newsroom.

BOSTON, N.Y. — August 27 — Members of the Boston Volunteer Fire Company participated in a practical training session that focused on interior fire operations, handling hose lines, searching for victims, and establishing a water supply.

During the session, firefighters had the chance to practice moving forward with hose lines and reviewed methods for searching for people inside a burning building.

They also engaged in drafting exercises, which involve setting up a water supply from a stationary source like a creek or pond.

New York State fire training standards emphasize the importance of hose handling, water supply operations, and skills needed on the fireground.

The state’s training program also includes detailed instruction on water supply procedures and pumping from a draft source.

Drafting is a valuable technique that allows firefighters to obtain water when a hydrant is not available.

It is especially important for departments working in areas where static water sources, such as ponds or creeks, are accessible.

The training held on August 27 gave Boston firefighters the opportunity to review their equipment, practice working together as a team, and strengthen their adherence to safe procedures before they are required during an actual emergency.
