BOSTON, N.Y. — August 21 — Members of the Boston Volunteer Fire Department took part in a Basic Exterior Firefighting Operations (BEFO) class organized by the Scranton Fire Company.The session brought together firefighters from multiple local departments to continue their training and improve their skills.

BEFO is a course designed to prepare new firefighters to function as exterior firefighters.

According to New York State standards, the course covers essential fireground skills, awareness of hazardous materials, and other fundamental firefighting operations.Completing the course requires passing a written exam, demonstrating practical skills, and meeting attendance requirements.

For volunteer firefighters, the class offered an opportunity to learn with personnel from other agencies, helping to establish a common understanding of emergency response procedures.

This type of training also allows firefighters to better understand their specific responsibilities, the equipment they use, and the safety protocols they must follow before responding to calls.

The Town of Boston identified the Boston Volunteer Fire Company as the local department serving southern Boston, with its station located at 6746 Mill Street on Boston State Road.

The training held on August 21 was part of an ongoing effort to learn, practice, and develop the necessary skills for safe and effective fireground operations. There were no emergency incidents connected to this training session.
