Hartland Remembered Judy Spencer

GASPORT, NY — August 24 — The Hartland Volunteer Fire Company recently commemorated five years since the line-of-duty death of its long-time member, Judy Spencer.
Spencer, who was 65 years old, passed away on August 24, 2021, while responding to a field fire on Quaker Road in Somerset.
She was serving in a fire police role and was acting as a spotter for a Barker Fire Department rescue truck when she was struck by the vehicle as it was backing up.She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Spencer had been a member of the Hartland Volunteer Fire Company since December 7, 1999, and was later honored as a life member.
According to the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation, she was a top responder for several years and was recognized as Hartland’s Firefighter of the Year in 2016.
The Town of Hartland formally acknowledged Spencer’s contributions, calling her a dedicated volunteer whose legacy would continue to inspire future firefighters.
Her name was also honored at the state Fallen Firefighters Memorial ceremony in New York.
Five years after her passing, the Hartland Volunteer Fire Company continues to remember Spencer for her service, commitment, and significance within the fire service community.
