Arkport, NY - A midday garage fire resulted in a total structural loss on Thursday, October 8, 2026, despite a swift multi-agency suppression effort involving mutual aid tankers and engines from surrounding departments.
At approximately 12:58 p.m., the Arkport Hose Company was dispatched on mutual aid to assist the Fremont Volunteer Fire Department at the scene of a reported outbuilding fire. Arriving first on scene, Arkport Car 92 reported heavy active fire with the detached garage already fully involved and flames threatening surrounding property.
Arkport Tanker 9 arrived shortly thereafter, tying into Fremont’s water supply operations to deliver high-capacity water shuttles essential for rural firefighting.
Attack lines worked aggressively to knock down the bulk of the fire and protect adjacent exposures; however, the intense thermal conditions resulted in the total destruction of the building and its contents.
Crews conducted extensive overhaul to douse deeply seated embers before clearing the scene.
