Wilton, NY - Quick action by the Wilton Fire Department and a coordinated network of mutual aid tanker companies prevented serious structural loss early Thursday morning, saving a local residence and safely rescuing three household pets from a fire sparked by lithium batteries.

At approximately 6:55 a.m. on September 24, 2026, Wilton Fire alongside automatic daytime mutual aid partners Maple Avenue and Gansevoort was dispatched to a reported working residential structure fire. En route, Car 720 immediately requested Saratoga Springs Fire for a FAST (Firefighter Assist and Search Team), the Saratoga County Cause and Origin Team, and National Grid utility crews, while also calling for rural water supply tankers from Corinth and South Glens Falls.

Arriving on location, Car 710 confirmed an active working fire, established incident command, and promptly struck a second alarm, requesting an additional tanker from Schuylerville to reinforce the water shuttle. Saratoga County Fire Car 6 assisted command with multi-agency staging and coverage logistics, coordinating a tanker from Malta Ridge to cover Wilton Station 1 and moving Ballston Spa apparatus to cover Maple Avenue's district.

Interior attack teams launched an aggressive suppression effort, holding the fire to its room of origin and resulting in an exceptional stop with minimal damage to the rest of the dwelling. During interior operations, firefighters safely located and evacuated three cats from the smoke-filled residence without injury.
