Seneca Falls, NY - An aggressive and coordinated interior fire attack by the Seneca Falls Volunteer Fire Department and multiple regional mutual aid partners prevented a working apartment fire from consuming a multi-family building along State Street on Wednesday afternoon.
At approximately 12:32 p.m. on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, the Seneca County Communications Center dispatched Seneca Falls fire units alongside the Town of Seneca Falls Police Department, Fayette Volunteer Fire Department, Waterloo Fire Department, Geneva Fire Department, and North Seneca Ambulance for a reported structure fire on State Street. Multiple Seneca Falls command and operational units—including 1464, 1462, 1461, and 1463—went en route immediately upon dispatch.
Waterloo 1661 arrived first on the scene, followed moments later by Seneca Falls 1464 and Engine 3. Engine 3 immediately secured a municipal hydrant water supply, allowing the crew on 1464 to advance an initial attack handline into the structure. As Seneca Falls Quint 1 arrived and set up for elevated master stream and aerial operations, interior teams launched a direct push into the involved apartment.
Initial interior suppression was spearheaded by personnel from 1661 and 462, joined shortly thereafter by crews from 1463 and 1468. Command was initially established by 1462 before transferring to 1461 upon arrival, with 1462 shifting to lead interior fireground operations. Responding units from Waterloo and Fayette integrated into primary fire suppression and ventilation tasks, while the Geneva Fire Department established a dedicated Rapid Intervention Team (RIT) on scene for firefighter safety.
North Seneca Ambulance staged directly in front of the local post office to provide emergency medical support and rehabilitation.
The rapid, synchronized knockdown stopped the fire within the room and apartment of origin, successfully preventing flames from breaching the attic space or extending into the three adjacent apartments within the building.
Following extinguishment, incident command requested utilities secured by NYSEG, alongside responses from the Seneca County Fire Investigation Team and local Code Enforcement to determine origin and structural integrity.
A representative from the Seneca Falls Veterinary Clinic and crews from the Town of Seneca Falls Highway Department were also requested to the scene to assist. All participating units completed overhaul, confirmed no hidden fire spread, and returned to full service by 4:30 p.m.
