Roseland, NJ - Roseland Volunteer Fire Department members participated in an Electric Vehicle (EV) training class at the Verona Fire Department in Verona, New Jersey, on August 26, 2026, as part of ongoing efforts to enhance operational readiness across Essex County.

The training, presented by Superiorem Emergency Training, focused on the growing chalenges associated with electric and hybrid vehicles, including high-voltage systems, lithium-ion battery hazards, thermal runaway recognition, and safe emergency response procedures.

Members reviewed operational best practices for scene size-up, vehicle stabilization, isolation of electrical hazards, and firefighter safety considerations when operating around modern EV technology. The session also emphasized decision-making under fireground conditions and cordinated tactics for managing incidents involving energized vehicle components.

Firefighters from Roseland joined neighboring West Essex departments for the training, strengthening interagency coordination and reinforcing a unified approach to emergency response across the region. The collaborative format allowed members to share experiences and align procedures for improved consistency during real-world incidents.

The department extended appreciation to the Verona Fire Department for hosting the training and to Superiorem Emergency Training for providing instruction. The session further reinforced the importance of continuous education and preparedness as vehicle technology continues to evolve.
