POINT PLEASANT BEACH, NJ — August 2 — Local campers had the chance to get a close look at the fire service when participants in the Point Pleasant Beach Recreation Camp visited Ocean Fire Company No.1 for an up-close firehouse experience.

The visit allowed the children to see where firefighters work and learn more about the equipment they use during emergency situations.

Ocean Fire Company No.1, situated at 400 Arnold Ave.in Point Pleasant Beach, is one of the borough’s two volunteer fire companies and is referred to as Station 42.

During the visit in August, the campers had the opportunity to try on firefighter turnout gear, tour the fire truck, and take turns using a fire hose.

These activities offered a practical introduction to some of the tools and equipment firefighters rely on during emergency responses.

For the younger visitors, trying on turnout gear helped them better understand the protective clothing firefighters wear.

Touring the fire apparatus also allowed the campers to see the tools and equipment carried on a fire truck and learn how they are used.

The hose demonstration let the campers experience the power of a fire hose in a controlled environment.

It also gave firefighters a chance to explain basic fire-service equipment and safety procedures.
