BARNEGAT LIGHT, NJ — August 15 — Firefighters spent part of the day practicing an essential fireground skill during a hands-on pump training exercise on 20th Street in Barnegat Light, New Jersey.

The Barnegat Light Volunteer Fire Company #1, based at 907 Central Avenue, was the lead department for the exercise.

This is a volunteer fire company and is recognized as Ocean County Station 13.FireCARES lists the station address as 907 Central Avenue and identifies the department as a volunteer organization.

During the training, firefighters used hose lines and the apparatus pump to move and discharge water.

The session allowed members to practice pump controls and water-flow operations in a controlled environment, rather than waiting for an emergency to gain experience.

For driver/operators, pump training is a crucial part of fireground readiness.

They must understand how to set up a water supply, monitor pump pressures, and manage water discharge while supporting crews on the fire scene. Depending on the situation, water may be sourced from hydrants, apparatus tanks, portable tanks, or other available water supplies.

The location near the waterfront also provided the opportunity to work on water-flow operations in an area where water access is readily available.
