CALIFON, NJ — July 28, 2026 — After completing her nursing study and obtaining her registered nurse (RN) credential in New Jersey, Califon Fire Company member Shay Duryea is being congratulated on hitting a new career milestone.

The fire department announced on July 28 that Duryea became a registered nurse after completing two years of education and a significant amount of clinical practice.

The achievement expands Duryea's background in emergency services by adding another level of medical training. Duryea is currently listed on the official volunteer roster of the Independence First Aid Squad as an EMT.

New Jersey's professional licensing system lists the New Jersey Board of Nursing, within the Division of Consumer Affairs, as the state authority responsible for registered nurse licensure.

Duryea's achievement also reflects the time commitment required to balance emergency-service responsibilities with formal healthcare education and clinical training.
