Pennsville, NJ — August 12 — Pennsville Fire & Rescue Company No.1 honored Firefighter William C.Zane on August 12, commemorating the 47th anniversary of his death while in the line of duty.

Zane was a member of Pennsville Fire-Rescue Company No.

1 prior to his passing on August 12, 1979.The National Fallen Firefighters Foundation recognized Zane as one of the department's line-of-duty fatalities and documented his death in 1979.

The company’s official records also noted Zane’s death and stated that a permanent memorial was built in his name.

For current firefighters, the memorial stands as a reminder of the duty and teamwork required when responding to emergencies.

Zane’s name remains an important part of the company’s history and is still remembered by those who came after him.

The National Fallen Firefighters Foundation’s Project Roll Call was established to honor firefighters who died before the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial was created in 1981.
