GRAND ISLE, VT — August 12 — Firefighters from the Grand Isle Volunteer Fire Department used their training time to become acquainted with a new piece of extrication equipment, the TL-9 stabilization system.

The TL-9 is used in conjunction with HURST eDraulic spreaders to create a stable point of contact when firefighters perform lifting tasks with these tools.

The training also emphasized cribbing and reinforcing the basics of stabilization.

The crew practiced a fundamental extrication technique known as: "Lift an inch, crib an inch."

For firefighters working near vehicles, ensuring stability during a lift is essential.

This training allowed the team to practice proper tool placement, stabilization, and cribbing techniques before they are required in a real emergency.

The Grand Isle Fire Department has served the community and nearby towns since 1951.
