West Pawlet Crews Handle Two Mutual-Aid Calls in Wells

Wells, Vt. — September 21, 2026 — On Monday evening, firefighters from the West Pawlet Volunteer Fire Department responded to two mutual-aid calls in Wells: one for a reported stove malfunction and another for a motor vehicle collision involving a pickup truck that ended up stuck in trees. 

The initial call arrived at 5:03 p.m. when West Pawlet firefighters were sent on automatic mutual aid with the Wells Volunteer Fire Department to respond to a potential stove malfunction on Jones Road in Wells. West Pawlet Engine 582 dispatched a crew, but en route, they were rerouted to standby at the Wells fire station. All units in West Pawlet were released at 5:32 p.m. and went back into service. 

At 6:53 p.m., West Pawlet firefighters were once again called out for mutual aid with Wells after a report of a fallen tree and power lines on Route 30 near Capron Lane. As crews responded, firefighters were informed that a motor vehicle collision had also taken place at the scene, involving a pickup truck that had veered into the trees. 

Engine 582 arrived with a crew and shut down the southbound lane of Route 30 at West Lake Road. The Granville Rescue Squad went to assess the pickup’s driver, while Green Mountain Power managed the damaged power lines. The vehicle was taken away, Route 30 was reopened, and all responding units were back in service by around 9:01 p.m.  The West Pawlet department reported the calls as its 78th and 79th responses of the year.
