Peconic, N.Y. — July 25-26 — At the yearly Dylan Newman Forever 5 charity softball event at Cochran Park in Peconic, participants from a number of local emergency services organizations exchanged their turnout gear for softball jerseys.
The two-day competition, which raises funds for the Dylan Newman Forever 5 Foundation, featured seven teams, including the Cutchogue Fire Department.
Over the weekend, Cutchogue firefighters participated in three games and finished with a 1-2 record. Firefighters from the Mattituck Fire Department and members of the Southold Police Department joined the Cutchogue squad.
The tournament honors the memory of Dylan Newman, a Southold-area teenager who died in 2022 after battling Ewing sarcoma. The foundation was established in his memory and supports scholarships for local students and other community efforts. Independent coverage of the 2026 tournament confirms the event was held at Cochran Park over the final weekend of July.
The foundation's scholarship program has become part of the North Fork community. Local 2026 graduation coverage shows multiple area students receiving Dylan Newman Forever 5 Foundation scholarships.
The tournament also gives local emergency-service members an opportunity to work together outside of emergency calls while supporting a cause connected to their community.
