Chief Henry Swartz Honored with Lifetime Achievement Award for Outstanding Service

In a remarkable ceremony, Chief Henry Swartz was honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award, celebrating his unparalleled contributions to fire and public service. With a career spanning over 46 years, Chief Swartz’s dedication and impact on the community are truly extraordinary.


Chief Swartz has been an active member of the Niverville Fire Department for 46 years and counting, consistently ranking as one of the department's most active members. His leadership roles include serving as Chief for three years, as well as holding positions as Assistant Chief, Junior Line Officer, and Past President. His influence extended beyond leadership, as he also served as the Chairman of the Board, Director of the Junior Firefighter Program, and Chairman of the Investigation Committee. Chief Swartz’s commitment to recruitment and retention has been instrumental in maintaining the strength and vitality of the Niverville Fire Department. His extensive service record includes significant roles in the Columbia County Volunteer Fireman’s Association, where he has been President on two occasions and currently serves as Financial Secretary. His additional contributions to public safety and fire service are equally impressive. As Deputy Director of Columbia County Emergency Management, Chief Swartz has been a staunch advocate for fire departments. He is an active member of the Columbia County Chiefs Association and has served on the Columbia County Cause and Origin Team as a Fire Investigator for 20 years. Furthermore, his leadership on the Columbia County Fire Advisory Board as Past Chairman highlights his influence and dedication to fire safety and management at the county level.


Despite his extensive list of accomplishments, Chief Swartz continues to serve selflessly as a seasoned veteran and leader. His ongoing role as Financial Secretary for the Columbia County Volunteer Fireman’s Association is a testament to his unwavering commitment to the community. Chief Swartz’s tireless service has made a lasting impact on the Niverville Fire Company, the Town of Kinderhook, the greater Columbia County area, and the entire State of New York. His exemplary career sets a high standard for public service and dedication.
