In order to provide Firefighter I and II training locally, the Waterford Fire Department is collaborating with the Vermont Fire Academy and a number of nearby fire departments. Students will get classroom and practical education from seasoned fire department instructors as part of the national certification program.

The orientation is set for August 26 at 6 p.m. in Barnet. Training will take place on Mondays, Wednesdays, and weekends. The deadline for applications is August 12 at 4 p.m. The agency is urging community members who want to work in firefighting to think about the program.
