Williamstown, VT. — July 18 — Using money from the Vermont Rural Fire Protection Program, the Barre Town Fire Department and Williamstown Fire Department & Fast Squad, 249 Meadow St., collaborated to build a new dry hydrant on Falls Bridge Road. In Williamstown and neighboring Barre, where there are few municipal hydrants, the project established a dependable water source for emergency responses.
The department's rural firefighting network was expanded with the construction of Williamstown's sixth dry hydrant. The project was finished by REM Construction. Dry hydrants improve water supply, mutual assistance operations, and overall fire protection capabilities for both communities during emergencies by enabling fire apparatus to draw water from ponds and other static sources.
