Royal Edgerly III was promoted to Deputy Chief by the Portland Fire Department, with effect from August 2.

After joining the department in August 2012, Edgerly advanced to the rank of lieutenant in June 2020 and captain in April 2024 while working in the Training Division. As Training Division Captain, he oversaw the department's 2025 AEMT Academy, two Officer Candidate classes, six drill schools, and department-wide fire and EMS training.

Edgerly will be Platoon 1's shift commander in his capacity as deputy chief. In addition to congratulating him on the promotion, department officials expressed gratitude for his ongoing commitment to the agency and the City of Portland.
