Pownal Fire Department Honors WWII Hero During Dignified Transfer

On July 30 in Bennington, members of the Pownal Fire Department took part in the respectful transfer of the remains of Pfc. Bernard Sweet, a Silver Star recipient and World War II prisoner of war.


Alongside Engine 1-5, firefighter Tim Pinsonneault Jr. participated in the parade honoring the returning service veteran as his remains were transported back to Vermont. Veterans, law enforcement, first responders, and people of the community came to pay their respects.


The department joined the community in celebrating Pfc. Sweet's legacy and expressed gratitude for his military service.
