Department-Wide CPR Training Reinforces Lifesaving Skills
Portland, ME - The Portland Maine Fire Department conducted department-wide CPR training over a two-week period, with all members completing BLS recertification through the American Heart Association.
Training emphasized the Pit Crew approach to cardiac arrest, focusing on maximizing chest compression fraction and improving overall patient outcomes. While personnel are trained in advanced care, the program reinforced that high-quality CPR remains the most critical factor in cardiac arrest survivability.
The department also highlighted the importance of early bystander CPR, noting that immediate action can significantly increase survival rates and reduce long-term complications by maintaining vital blood flow until responders arrive.
