On July 10, Amherst Fire and EMS honored Randy Mantooth, the actor best known for playing firefighter-paramedic John Gage on the TV show Emergency!.
Mantooth's contribution to raising public awareness of the fire and emergency medical services professions was acknowledged by department authorities. He encouraged many firefighters, EMTs, and paramedics to seek careers in public service through his portrayal on the show. Throughout his life, Mantooth continued to be a devoted supporter of the fire and EMS sector outside of television.
