SOUTH PORTLAND, ME — April 14th — During National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week, the South Portland Fire Department honored dispatchers and expressed gratitude to the Portland Regional Communications Center staff.


As the initial point of contact, information gatherers, and resource coordinators for situations throughout the region, dispatchers are essential to emergency response, according to officials. They provide assistance to both responders and the general people, frequently under stressful circumstances.


The department praised dispatch staff for keeping workers informed and well-organized on each call, highlighting the need of communication in guaranteeing safe and efficient operations.
