This article is a direct street report from our correspondent and has not been edited by the 1st Responder newsroom.

On April 11, 2026, Secaucus Fire Department members of Washington Hook & Ladder Co. #1 and Rescue Co. #1/Engine Co. #2 took part in an intensive day of live fire training at the Bergen County Fire Academy.

The training featured three live burn evolutions, giving firefighters the opportunity to operate in realistic, high-heat conditions while sharpening critical firefighting skills. Crews worked side by side through a range of assignments, including fire attack, search and rescue operations, and coordinated ventilation techniques.

Each evolution was designed to simulate real-world fireground scenarios, challenging members to think quickly, communicate effectively, and operate safely under pressure. The hands-on experience allowed participants to build confidence while reinforcing the importance of teamwork and accountability.

The strong turnout reflected the department’s commitment to ongoing training and preparedness. Members embraced the opportunity to learn, improve, and support one another throughout the day.

A special thank you was extended to the instructors at the Bergen County Fire Academy for their guidance and support, helping make the training both productive and memorable.

Trainings like these ensure that Secaucus firefighters remain ready to respond with skill, professionalism, and dedication when their community needs them most.
