Mutual Aid Crews Operate at South Orange Fire

This article is a direct street report from our correspondent and has not been edited by the 1st Responder newsroom.

SOUTH ORANGE, NJ — 14th March — Engine 1, Tour #4 crew was sent to the 50 block of South Orange Avenue to help with a third-alarm structure fire, according to the Hillside FMBA. After arriving, the team worked with mutual aid organizations and helped put out and quell fires. When circumstances permitted, crews coordinated both internal and external actions under a single command structure. In Essex County, third-alarm disasters usually necessitate the involvement of several departments to support ongoing firefighting operations, including manpower and water supply requirements.

Until the situation was under control, Hillside's crew continued to assist on the spot. Such mutual aid responses promote firefighter safety and incident management in general while assisting in the maintenance of efficient operations during large-scale crises.
