Tremont, ME - A dozen volunteers from the Tremont Fire Department (TFD) took advantage of rapidly deteriorating ice conditions to complete their annual refresher training. The team used the opportunity to practice critical rescue techniques in realistic environments.
Ice and cold-water rescue emergencies demand quick action and the coordination of multiple trained responders. Under mutual aid guidelines, such incidents typically activate a large-scale response involving several departments, agencies, and EMS personnel.
TFD is equipped with a variety of specialized water rescue tools, including an inflatable rescue sled, an aluminum johnboat, and gear designed for pet and wildlife recovery.
Community members interested in learning new skills and contributing to a team dedicated to helping others are encouraged to contact their local volunteer emergency services organization.
