FRANKLIN SQUARE, NY — March 4th — The yearly in-service refresher course on mask confidence and self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) was just started for members of Franklin Square Munson Fd, 841 Liberty Pl, Franklin Square, NY. In order to replicate the low visibility frequently experienced during structure fires, firefighters navigated the department's training site while wearing full protection gear. While rehearsing emergency procedures and controlling their air supply, crews maneuvered over obstacles and cramped areas.

Firefighters are better equipped for inside operations and are more at ease working from the air thanks to the training. In line with national fire service standards like NFPA 1404, which promotes ongoing respiratory protection training for firefighters operating in hazardous situations, regular SCBA training is an essential component of firefighter safety programs.
