Deposit, NY - Firefighters from the Deposit Fire Department mobilized units from both active stations Wednesday to suppress a vehicle fire along the State Route 17 highway corridor.

Emergency crews were dispatched on Wednesday, October 15, 2026, following reports of a motor vehicle actively burning along State Route 17 Eastbound in the Town of Sanford, in the vicinity of Mile Marker 271. Personnel from Deposit Fire Department Station 1 and Station 2 responded promptly to the highway location, deploying Squad 22-2 alongside Pumper-Tanker 22 to secure an immediate water supply and attack capabilities.

Upon arrival, fire crews initiated rapid handline operations to knock down the flames engulfing the vehicle. Firefighters addressed potential fluid runoffs, isolated battery hazards, and mitigated structural and mechanical hotspots within the automobile.

First responders coordinated scene safety and lane closures along the eastbound lanes of Route 17 to protect operating personnel until the fire was fully brought under control and the scene was rendered safe for vehicle recovery operations.
