December 5, 2025 – Fearnots Fire Company 134 responded this afternoon to a reported carbon monoxide (CO) detector activation with symptoms at a residence located at 78 Lake Drive in the Hickory Hills development. Foster Fire 134 Squad and Medic 26 were dispatched to the scene to investigate the alert and ensure the safety of the occupants.

Upon arrival, Fire Company 134 crews entered the residence and conducted atmospheric monitoring using a carbon monoxide meter, which registered 0 parts per million at the time of the inspection. As a precautionary measure, propane gas service to the home’s fireplace was shut off. The homeowner was advised to contact a local certified gas company to perform a full inspection and maintenance of the gas fireplace system.

Two occupants of the home were evaluated by EMS and ultimately signed off, declining further medical treatment. The incident was managed under the command of Lieutenant C. Legath of Fire Company 134. The scene was secured after crews confirmed no immediate hazards remained.

Fire officials remind residents that carbon monoxide alarms are a critical life-safety device and that any activation—especially when accompanied by symptoms—should always be taken seriously and reported immediately.
