At 10:39 pm on Wednesday, 12/24/25 the Norwich Fire Department with Yantic Engine 33, Laurel Hill ET-61, East Great Plain Ladder 5 & Rescue 5, Mohegan Tribal FAST and an American Ambulance were dispatched to 15 Platt Avenue for a house fire. Engine 2 arrived at 10:44 with heavy fire from the bravo, charlie and delta sides of a 2.5 story wood frame occupied multiple dwelling.
Engine 2 lead off with a 2.5” hose line to the rear. Squad A then stretched an 1.75” hose line to the walk out basement on the bravo side, forced a door and battled their way in. Engine 3 established the water supply from a hydrant on Broad Street and stretched a third hose line. Two members from Truck 1 performed the primary search, while the driver flew the aerial and threw ground ladders.
Ladder 5 stretched an additional hose line to the interior. After a bottle swap out, Squad A and Engine 33 stretched in to the top floor together. Crews battled the fire for about an hour in the balloon frame constructed house but were eventually called out for members to regroup and go defensive. Battalion 1 initially had command and transmitted the second alarm. Car 1 then arrived, so the Battalion became operations. The Norwich Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating and the American Red Cross is assisting the displaced residents.
Occum Engine 41 covered Greenville while Yantic Engine 31, Preston Engine 13 and Taftville Truck 25 covered Headquarters.
