On December 21, 2025 at approximately 1045 hours, the Burlington County Fire Alarm Room dispatched the Springfield Twp companies and automatic aid to 65 Highland Road for the report of a dwelling fire. This is a rural part of Burlington County that is not generally serviced with fire hydrants. Due to the incoming reports, the fire dispatcher placed all companies working before fire units arrived. First arriving fire units confirmed a working fire and reported a three story, wood frame, single family dwelling with fire showing. To add urgency and complexity to the situation, there was a report that a victim still might be inside and that Collyer's Mansion conditions existed. First due units went right to work with fireground priorities of stretching lines, performing primary searches, and laddering the building. Searches proved negative. The fire communicated to the attic space and due to the unsafe structure conditions, personnell were withdrawn and a PAR was conducted. In addition to the regularly assigned units, units from Joint Base Maguire-Dix-Lakehurst brought in their ladder company and water tender unit. A second alarm was ordered at approximately 1058 hours. The additional units used their personnell to assist with fire suppression efforts as well as assisting with the water relays, shuttles, and dump tanks. Electric power lines in the front of the dwelling impeded favorable positioning of the aerial ladder and efforts to be able to extinguish the fire in the attic space quickly, but other tactics were used, the fire was extinguished, and placed under control. There was a report of one person injured. The fire remains under investigation.
