Ledyard, Connecticut — December 9 — As part of a second-alarm assignment for a building fire, Ledyard Fire Company Engine 11 arrived in Groton. The equipment arrived at the scene from the Fairway Drive station to support the Groton Fire Department and other mutual-aid organizations.
When a fire necessitates longer operations or more staff, second-alarm responses offer additional manpower and equipment. As crews cycled on the scene, Engine 11 was tasked with maintaining operational coverage and assisting with suppression efforts. Regional fire operations still heavily rely on mutual help, which enables agencies to pool resources while maintaining protection in their local areas. Until circumstances permitted the release of resources and the return of regular coverage, operations proceeded under incident command.
