Manchester, Connecticut — 27th November — At the 89th annual Manchester Road Race, the Colchester Hayward Volunteer Fire Company deployed UTV 228 to offer EMS support. As part of a coordinated medical response plan, Colchester Fire & EMS volunteer firefighter Steve Shorts brought the unit to the scene. In order to cover the course and the adjacent spectator areas, UTV 228 worked with six other EMS UTVs. Five patients were assessed and treated by the crew during the race.

Large-scale road events frequently employ UTVs to increase access in crowded locations where regular ambulances could be scarce. When necessary, these units enable EMS personnel to coordinate care with transporting units and promptly reach patients.
