December 9, 2025 — Commack Fire Department, A serious motor vehicle crash with entrapment claimed one life and left another person injured Tuesday evening on Veterans Memorial Highway near Apple Lane.

According to the Commack Fire Department, crews were already operating at a reported gas leak at a nearby commercial building when they were dispatched to the crash scene. Upon arrival, 3rd Assistant Chief Simoes confirmed that two occupants were heavily trapped inside the vehicle.

Firefighters immediately placed multiple extrication tools into service, working alongside emergency responders to free the occupants. The driver was successfully extricated and transported for medical care. The passenger, however, was pronounced dead at the scene by Emergency Medical Services and the Suffolk County Police Department.

Authorities remained on scene to investigate the cause of the crash. No further details were immediately released.
