Search and Rescue Leaders Convene at Center Moriches Firehouse to Strengthen Maritime Coordination

December 17, 2025 — Center Moriches Fire Department , Search and rescue professionals from across Long Island gathered Wednesday morning at the Center Moriches Fire Department for a U.S. Coast Guard Sector Long Island Sound Search and Rescue Council meeting, bringing together a broad cross-section of agencies that routinely respond to maritime emergencies.

The meeting united representatives from fire departments, law enforcement agencies, emergency management offices, commercial marine salvage operators, and the U.S. Coast Guard Sector Long Island Sound. Participants engaged in open discussion focused on interagency coordination, operational challenges, and lessons learned from recent incidents across Nassau and Suffolk Counties.

Organizers emphasized the importance of collaboration in complex, multi-agency responses on Long Island’s waterways. By sharing experience and strengthening professional relationships, agencies aim to improve readiness, communication, and overall effectiveness during future search and rescue operations. The Center Moriches Fire Department thanked the Coast Guard and regional partners for their participation and reaffirmed its commitment to advancing marine safety throughout the region.
