A chimney fire in Brookhaven was quickly contained on November 25, 2025, thanks to an early 911 call from a nearby resident and the coordinated response of the Brookhaven Fire Department and the Bellport Fire Department.
Firefighters arrived to find smoke coming from the chimney of a single-family home. Crews deployed an aerial ladder to access the roof and confirmed that the fire was confined to the chimney flue. Prompt action prevented the fire from extending into the interior walls or attic space of the residence.
Multiple apparatus were positioned along the roadway as firefighters worked to extinguish the fire, ventilate the chimney, and conduct overhaul operations to ensure no hidden fire remained. No injuries were reported, and damage was limited to the chimney.
Fire officials say the incident serves as a timely reminder that chimney fires are more common during colder months, when fireplaces and wood-burning stoves are in regular use. Residents are urged to have chimneys inspected and cleaned annually to reduce the risk of fire.
The Brookhaven Fire Department thanked the Bellport Fire Department for their assistance and emphasized that quick reporting and regular maintenance are key to preventing small incidents from becoming major emergencies.
