Woodstock, Connecticut — December 18 — Earlier in the morning, Team 76 members reacted to a chimney fire with help from mutual aid partners Bungay Fire Brigade and Muddy Brook Fire Department. When first responders arrived, they discovered that the fire was limited to the chimney system and swiftly contained it to prevent it from spreading into the house. Before leaving the scene, firefighters verified extinguishment and looked for heat. There were no reported injuries. Because wood stoves and fireplaces are used more frequently during the heating season, there are more chimney fires. To lower creosote buildup and fire risk, fire officials continue to advise locals to arrange for expert chimney inspections and cleanings. Routine maintenance, coordinated mutual aid, and early notification are still useful strategies for safeguarding properties and assisting responders in conducting safe operations.
