Coventry, Connecticut — December 18 — During the heating season, a chimney fire in the community was reported, and firefighters from the Town of Coventry Fire EMS responded. Crews were able to securely reach the chimney thanks to the placement of Truck 218, which provided roof access. After putting out the fire, firefighters made sure it was limited to the chimney system and had not spread into the house. There were no reported injuries. Because wood stoves and fireplaces are used more frequently in the winter, there are more chimney fires. Residents are being urged by fire officials to book routine chimney cleanings and inspections with licensed experts. Regular maintenance decreases the risk of fire and helps prevent creosote buildup. Responding workers were able to effectively handle the issue thanks to coordinated actions and early notification.
