Amherst, N.H. — December 2 —As winter storm conditions approach, Amherst Fire Rescue advised locals to take critical fire and carbon monoxide safety precautions.

It is recommended that residents maintain a three-foot space around fire hydrants, remove snow from exhaust vents, and run generators outside at least 20 feet from windows and doors. When the weather permits, homeowners should securely remove heavy, wet snow and ice from rooftops.
