Refuse Truck Fire Brings Response Near Windham Center Ball Field

Windham Center, Connecticut — November 20 — The Windham Center Fire Department responded to a reported garbage truck fire on Follett Road by the ball field in Windham Center. Crews discovered a fire involving a garbage truck's contents when they arrived, and they started suppression efforts to contain the problem. Traffic was restricted in the area as firefighters worked, and motorists were advised to avoid the roadway. Crews extinguished the fire and checked the vehicle for extension and rekindle, a common concern with refuse truck incidents due to mixed debris. No injuries were reported. The Windham Center Fire Department, 18 Windham Center Road, Windham, Connecticut, remained on scene until conditions were stabilized and the area was reopened to normal traffic.
