East Putnam, Connecticut — December 14 — The East Putnam Fire Department, located at 263 Providence Turnpike, is reminding drivers that the purpose of the fire apparatus obstructing roads is safety. Several automobiles went over fire apparatus and entered the active incident site during a serious motor vehicle accident on Interstate 395, according to officials. While emergency operations are in progress, fire equipment are positioned to safeguard patients, firefighters, and EMS staff. Driving past these obstacles can interfere with incident management and put the public and responders at danger. Roadway closures are clearly marked by warning lights and blocking devices used by departments throughout Connecticut. Drivers are advised to obey emergency personnel's directions, slow down, and move aside as instructed. Respecting these protocols contributes to everyone's safety at emergency scenes.
