Canterbury, CT — December 1 — In compliance with NFPA 1403 guidelines, the Canterbury Volunteer Fire Company Inc. and the Lisbon Fire Department collaborated on a live fire training exercise. Firefighters were able to practice interior operations, hose line progression, communication, and coordinated team movement under controlled live fire situations throughout the training. NFPA 1403 creates nationally accepted safety standards intended to lower risk while permitting practical training advancements.
Live fire exercises help reinforce decision-making and teamwork, which cannot be entirely recreated in classroom settings, according to training officials. Additionally, joint drills enable adjacent departments to train together utilising shared strategies and operational protocols. Continued skill development, enhanced interdepartmental cooperation, and preparedness for structural fire responses throughout the region were all encouraged by the exercise.
