Bridgeport, Conn. — December 11 — To assist locals in preventing winter holiday fires, the Bridgeport Fire Department issued crucial safety alerts. The department stated that improper use of candles, Christmas trees, and decorative lights can increase the risk of fire.

In addition to ensuring Christmas trees are well-watered and kept away from heat sources, residents are advised to keep candles out of reach of anything that can catch fire and to consider battery-operated alternatives. Trees should be removed after the holidays, or when they dry out, and electrical decorations should be installed in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions. The Bridgeport Fire Department advised locals that families can stay safe throughout the holiday season by taking a few easy steps.
