November 16, 2025 — This past Sunday marked a full and productive training day for the Newberry Township Fire Department, as volunteers participated in both driver certification and hands-on fireground training.

Five members completed the Emergency Vehicle Operator Course (EVOC), finishing the driving portion through a cone course. Department officers congratulated driver-in-training Scott Getgen and fire police members Robert Moran, Dustin Bream, Elizabeth Kohl, and Kelvin Jones on successfully completing and passing the course.

While EVOC training was underway, other members traveled to the York County Fire School for the department’s annual structural burn session. A total of 15 of the department’s 18 qualified interior firefighters, along with two additional members, took part in live-fire training. Working alongside firefighters from Station 27 (York Haven), crews practiced hoseline advancement on first-floor and attic fires, as well as Vent-Enter-Search (VES) techniques.

Department leadership extended sincere thanks to social members Donna Coder and Sharon Borger for preparing lunch for all participants, Station 44 for providing burn technicians, and Station 68 (Fairview) for covering Newberry Township while crews were committed to training.

Officers praised the dedication shown by all members, noting that training days like this are essential to maintaining readiness, safety, and effective service to the community.
