November 21, 2025 — It is with deep regret that the East Prospect Fire Company announced it will cease operations as a fire company at 11:59 p.m. on December 31, 2025, bringing to a close more than a century of dedicated service to the community. Founded in 1907, the department has provided 24/7 fire protection for East Prospect and surrounding areas for generations.

Department leadership cited declining volunteer participation, rising operational costs, and decreased revenues as the factors that forced this difficult decision. Officials expressed heartfelt gratitude to the residents, supporters, and members who stood by the company throughout its long history.

Arrangements are currently being finalized to ensure that all emergency calls in East Prospect and nearby areas will continue to be handled by mutual aid partners, maintaining uninterrupted fire protection for the community. No additional information was available for release.
