On Tuesday, the Plainville Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire on Warren Street after neighbors saw flames coming from a horse barn. Crews arrived at heavy fire conditions involving a riding arena and an adjacent stable. A first alarm and working fire assignment were requested, along with mutual aid.
Firefighters contained the fire to the main structure and protected nearby buildings housing horses. Seven horses were later found deceased in a connected stable. The fire was brought under control within 45 minutes, followed by an extensive overhaul.
Plainville Fire and the Massachusetts State Police Fire Investigation Unit are investigating. Early findings indicate the fire was unintentional and not suspicious.
