Barnstable Fire Department members participated in hands-on training this week at the former Barnstable Fire District offices, which had been scheduled for demolition to make way for the new fire station. The vacant structure provided firefighters with a realistic environment to refine critical operational skills.
Crews practiced firefighter rescue and survival, search techniques, hoseline advancement, and roof operations. Training staff said exercises like these help improve communication and reinforce teamwork under controlled but realistic conditions.
Officials noted that the training contributed to operational readiness and supported safer performance when responding to structure fires and other emergencies. The department expressed appreciation to those who assisted in making the session possible.
