On Nov. 11, 2025 Butts County Fire & Emergency Services - On September 4, 2024, Greene County Battalion Chief Chris Eddy made the ultimate sacrifice while responding to a tractor-trailer fire that resulted in a tragic explosion. His courage, dedication, and unwavering commitment to serving his community continue to resonate deeply throughout the fire service.
In honor of Chief Eddy, Greene County Fire Chief Rodney Wiggins visited Butts County Fire & Emergency Services today to conduct a comprehensive review of the incident. Chief Wiggins detailed the hazards involved, the sequence of events, and the critical lessons learned in hopes of preventing similar tragedies in the future. Fifteen agencies were represented, and more than eighty firefighters took part in the briefing and open discussion.
Butts County Fire & Emergency Services expressed sincere gratitude to Chief Wiggins for sharing his expertise and leadership. The department also thanked every firefighter and agency in attendance. Continuing education, collaboration, and the sharing of real-world experience remain essential in safeguarding both responders and the communities they serve.
