On November 4, 2025, the Brooks County Fire Department responded to a mutual aid request from the City of Quitman Fire Department for a confirmed residential structure fire. Brooks County units assisted with fire suppression and ventilation efforts, working alongside Quitman firefighters to bring the blaze under control. A total of 12 Brooks County personnel operated on scene, and thanks to coordinated tactics and strong interagency cooperation, the fire was extinguished without any reported injuries. Multiple agencies—including Quitman Police, Quitman Gas and Electrical Departments, SGMC EMS, and the Brooks County Sheriff’s Office—contributed to the successful mitigation of the incident.
